With the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) as the sponsoring organization, the National Telcom Corporation (NTC) is an association-captive property and casualty insurance company. As a captive, NTC does business only with NTCA and individual members, who own and control it. Association insurance captives offer other advantages as well, such as opportunities to minimize administrative costs and control losses.

NTC was capitalized in 1982 through the purchase of stock by NTCA and individual members, with current assets of approximately $19 million. NTC is a reinsurance company that shares a portion of the risk assumed from the primary underwriting companies. Underwriting, excess insurance and claims services are also provided by these companies in partnership with NTC.

Telcom Insurance Services Corporation (TISC), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTC, provides brokerage services for this comprehensive insurance program, as well as field services and risk management education and resources. NTC is incorporated in Vermont. Its headquarters are in Burlington, where SB&T Captive Management Company serves as NTC’s resident manager.

Together, the two groups form the Telcom Insurance Group (TIG). Telcom has worked for the exclusive benefit of NTCA members for more than twenty years. Through the use of insurance and risk management education, training, and various loss prevention services, Telcom donates more than $1,000,000 in hard and soft dollars to the members of NTCA.

We are the industry leader in providing the coverages for all of the exposures of a modern telecommunications company. Telcom is the only nationwide program that specializes in rural telecommunications that is fully licensed to do business in every line and in every state where NTCA members do business.
